Cadence CR7 Spinning Rod Overview

The Cadence CR7 Spinning Rod is one of the most highly-rated spinning rods in the fishing industry. Cadence engineers and design experts poured their efforts into creating an extremely lightweight, yet durable spinning rod by using a 40-ton carbon blank. In addition to this high-quality blank, the Cadence CR7 Spinning Rod is packed with premium features and components that truly set it apart from the competition.

The CR7 Spinning Rod delivers superior performance that’s perfect for a number of finesse fishing tactics and other rigs and lure presentations. I think in many ways, the CR7 Spinning Rod gives you the ideal blend of toughness with fast-action rod performance that ensures you won’t miss those quick, subtle bites you often get when using certain types of finesse rigs.

The Cadence CR7 Spinning Rod comes in 12 different model options that include various lengths, as well as rod power and action that allow each angler to select the one that’s perfect for them and the uses they have for this rod. Each of these 12 different rod models are made of a strong, one-piece blank that helps provide added durability over the strength you might get from a two or even a three-piece rod.

Each of the Cadence CR7 Spinning rods come with stainless steel guides that are made with SIC inserts, which give you a significant boost in casting and overall toughness. These rods are also fitted with Fuji reel seats for extra durability and control over your catch and each rod is carbon-wrapped for an even greater degree of durability over other rods that are made of similar material.

While there are a select few models of spinning rods that are comparable to the Cadence CR7 Spinning Rod, it’s tough to find one that offers the same premium-quality components that also isn’t priced at a level that’s nearly twice as much as the CR7.

As we’ve already noted, the Cadence CR7 Spinning Rod is made of 40-ton carbon blank material. Many of the top spinning rod models are made with 40-ton carbon rods that feature high modulus blanks, but they typically cost much more than the CR7. The Cadence CR7 Spinning Rod is one of the only fishing rods on the market that’s made with 40-ton carbon material that is priced at under $100.

While this material is exceptionally strong, it’s also very lightweight and is perfect for spinning rods that anglers like to use for fishing soft plastics in Carolina or Texas rigs, as well as Ned rigs and Neko rigs. The CR7’s 40-ton carbon material is incredibly sensitive as well, which helps you detect small, subtle pecks on the lure from fish, as well as when your lure comes into contact with certain types of structure or material in the water or on the bottom.

Stainless Steel Guides

The Cadence CR7 Spinning Rod’s stainless steel guides are made to help the line glide over them with less friction than other types of material. These stainless steel guides are also crafted with a forward leaning design that’s intended to lessen the potential for developing tangles when using braided fishing line.

These stainless steel guide rings are made with silicone carbide (SIC) material that’s more smooth than any other type of guide ring material you might find in other spinning rod products. In addition to being incredibly smooth, these guide rings are also hardened to withstand the wear and tear that’s associated with using braided line. Unlike other spinning rods, you’ll be able to cast almost the same distance with braided line as you would with mono or fluoro thanks to these SIC guide rings.

Fuji Reel Seat

In my opinion, one of the more overlooked components of the Cadence CR7 Spinning Rod that still deserves a high amount of praise is the Fuji reel seat. These reel seats are widely considered to be among the best in the fishing industry and are often included in some of the top spinning rod producers like Shimano, Abu Garcia and others.

The Fuji reel seat is ergonomically-designed so that the rod’s handle has a very comfortable feel in your hands. This reel seat helps keep the reel firmly in place, which works to increase the overall sensitivity of the rod. This is another valuable aspect when it comes to using finesse fishing rigs and lures.

Carbon Wrapped

The Cadence CR7 Spinning Rod is built to have outstanding rigidity while still delivering a good level of sensitivity at the same time. The rod is able to accomplish this largely because it’s made with a carbon wrapped veil. This carbon wrapping helps to further strengthen the rod and make it even more rigid so that it can withstand the extreme pressure that’s placed on the blank when a large fish pulls on the line.

This carbon wrapping is placed on the rod’s lower third section, which is the most vulnerable in terms of cracking or damage that can occur from fighting trophy-sized fish. This carbon wrapping covers the rod’s lower section, as well as the reel seat, which further enhances the strength and sensitivity level of the Cadence CR7 Spinning Rod.

It’s important for any angler to have the right length when it comes to using certain types of lures. Experienced anglers know that a few inches is sometimes a major difference in terms of optimal levels of sensitivity and action when it comes to using certain types of lures. The Cadence CR7 Spinning Rod comes in an assortment of 12 different rod lengths that allow you to choose the one that’s ideal for a wide range of applications.

The length of your rod is exceptionally important as it will often dictate the rod’s ability to cast certain lures with varying weights. Some of the Cadence CR7 rods are well-suited for going after trout, crappie, bream and other small species while others are perfect for inshore fishing and targeting large muskie, walleye and bass species.

The length selections you can choose from range from a fast-action 5’10” rod to a longer 7’6” version. The price difference between these 12 lengths is minimal and some of the rods are made with medium light power while others are made with medium heavy power.

I strongly believe that having a spinning rod with the right power level is important for anglers of any skill level. The Cadence CR7 Spinning Rod is generally a medium power rod with varying degrees between medium light and medium heavy. Rods that are medium light are usually better for lures that weigh less than ¾ ounce while medium heavy rods are good for heavier line and lures that can be used to catch larger fish.

The Cadence CR7 is a fast action rod that anglers can purchase in a variety of different variations. These include an extra fast 6’3”, 6’8” and 6’10” with a medium fast 7’ rod. The rest of the CR7 models are all fast action rods.

These fast action style rods are excellent for a variety of different lures such as crankbaits, topwater lures, and a wide assortment of finesse techniques like the Ned rig, wacky rig or shaky head. The fact that the Cadence CR7 Spinning Rod delivers an outstanding level of sensitivity makes it the perfect choice for these kinds of rigs and lures.

  • Extremely well made with great performance and durability
  • Highly versatile with a large range of model options so you can find whatever you need
  • Still very affordable while offering plenty of strength

  • I think it can be hard to justify the extra expense of the CR7 when the CR5 is so good and better value for money
  • Only comes in 1 piece which can be more difficult to store and transport

Cadence CR5 vs CR7

You cannot think about buying a Cadence CR7 without exploring a comparison with its little brother, the CR5. The CR5 is 30% cheaper but it is made from 30 ton graphite rather than the 40 ton of the CR7. It is also not carbon wrapped and uses a more standard grade of cork in the handles.

This allows the CR5 to be manufactured 2 pieces that can help with travel and storage.

We also have a full review of the Cadence CR5 so that you can see the comparative differences with the CR7.

The Cadence CR7 Spinning Rod is likely the best rod in the fishing industry of its kind that you’ll find for less than $100. In my experience it possesses the perfect characteristics for being an all-around workhorse of a spinning rod that anglers can use to catch anything from small panfish to giant muskie depending on the different rod lengths, power and actions.

There are other spinning rods on the market that also have many of the same features and capabilities, but you’re guaranteed to spend more. You won’t find these rods in your local bait shop because Cadence aims to cut out the cost of a middleman and allow their customers to order straight from the manufacturer.

In addition to providing an incredible value to anglers, the Cadence brand dedicates a portion of the proceeds of each sale of their fishing gear and equipment to help provide rod and reel combos for fishing-based youth charities. It’s truly hard for me to find an offer more appealing from the many companies throughout the fishing industry.
